A-U-D-I is a new subsidiary sub-brand of the German company Audi, created together with the Chinese state-owned automaker SAIC to jointly develop electric vehicles. Audi and SAIC have been cooperating for quite some time, and their joint venture in Shanghai produces Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi cars. In 2023, it was decided to expand the alliance by introducing a new brand, AUDI, aimed primarily at the Chinese market. The logo of the new brand does not have the usual “identification” rings: instead, there is an illuminated inscription consisting of four letters A-U-D-I. And the cars themselves have practically nothing in common with the traditional German models of the parent company Audi: they are built on the 800-volt modular architecture ADP (Advanced Digitized Platform) - an adapted and reconfigured version of the SAIC platform, originally developed for the IM brand of electric vehicles. The first-born of the new Chinese-German sub-brand AUDI, the E5 Sportback station wagon, debuted in the spring of 2025 at the Shanghai Auto Show, and in August, orders opened in China and all the technical details appeared. The creators of the first AUDI "without rings" combined German engineering with cutting-edge Chinese innovation, so, according to Fermin Soneira, CEO of the AUDI brand, "the E5 Sportback combines the best of both worlds." The head of the Chinese division has already stated that if the AUDI sub-brand's electric vehicles are successful in China, their sales will be launched on the global market.
