Alfa Romeo Arna – overview
The Alfa Romeo Arna is a compact 5-door hatchback produced by Alfa Romeo in collaboration with Nissan (Japan) from 1983 to 1987. The joint venture was named AR.N.A. S.p.A. (Italian Alfa Romeo Nissan Autoveicoli). The fruit of their joint work received the same name. The Arna was assembled at a factory near Naples, while body parts were brought from Japan. At its core, the Alfa Romeo Arna was nothing more than a Nissan Cherry, quite well known in Europe. But the engine, transmission and front suspension were original. Unfortunately, the car took on the worst features of its "parents": Nissan's unattractive design and Alfa Romeo's poor build quality. However, the Arna occupies an honorable 26th place in Richard Porter's book "Crap Cars".
