Audi 50 – overview
The Audi 50 is a subcompact passenger car produced from 1974 to 1978. Audi's smallest car was the company's response to the energy crisis of the early 1970s. It had a beautiful interior with excellent classic design, high-quality interior trim, high passive safety, excellent handling and comfort, which is why it was called the “premium compact car”. A small three-door hatchback (only 3.51 m long) with a transverse engine and front-wheel drive turned out to be so successful that it served as the basis for the first Volkswagen Polo. As a result, the more affordable Polo turned out to be more popular than the four-ring model, and the production of the Audi 50 was terminated in 1978. A total of 180.8 thousand cars were released.
