Autocars Carmel - catalog and technical specifications
Autocars Carmel is a subcompact passenger car produced by the Israeli company Autocars between 1961 and 1964. Appeared in the wake of the success of the first Israeli-made car, Sussita. Named after Mount Carmel, where it was actually assembled, the car was a four-wheeled “clone” of the three-wheeled British model Reliant Regal. The body, made of fiberglass, guaranteed light weight, which made it possible to use small, and therefore cheaper and more economical engines. A 1200 cc engine was installed under the hood. cm from Ford Cortina. Poor build quality, simplicity and cheapness of the design led to the fact that Autocars Carmel had many problems. The car caused numerous complaints from buyers, so it was discontinued in 1964. However, soon some modifications of Sussita began to be named after Carmel. In 1966, a new four-door version was introduced, but it was called differently - Gilboa.
