BMW iX5 Hydrogen – overview
The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is the first mass-produced BMW crossover powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. Production of a pilot batch of 100 cars began in 2023, with the first units being delivered for testing in various cities around the world. The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is based on the fourth-generation BMW X5 and has the same cabin and trunk capacity as the original model. It is equipped with a pair of composite cylinders that hold 6 kg of hydrogen at a pressure of 700 bar. The electric technology is shared with the electric BMW iX: a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle provides a peak output of 401 hp. The driving range is claimed to be 504 km (according to the WLTP cycle).
