Citroen 2 CV - catalog and technical specifications

The Citroën 2CV is a compact car manufactured by Citroën from 1949 to 1990. Its name "deux chevaux vapeur" translates as "two horsepower". In fact, the original version produced 9 hp. Of special note are a front-wheel drive system, which meant cheaper assembly and improved layout, an adjustable spring suspension, a high ground clearance and a removable fabric rooftop, which made it possible to transport bulky cargo. The 2CV was designed as a utility vehicle, ultra-affordable, easy to maintain and repair, capable of handling bad roads and designed to replace the French farmer's horse and cart or the city dweller’s bicycle and cab. The idea turned out to be a success. In France, this car enjoyed the same popularity as the Ford T in the United States or the Volkswagen Beetle in Germany. This little Citroen stayed on the assembly line for many decades: production lasted 42 years with minimal design changes. A total of almost 9 million units were produced.
