Traction Avant

Citroen Traction Avant generations

The Citroën Traction Avant is one of the world's first mass-produced front-wheel drive cars with a monocoque body, produced by the French automaker Citroën from 1934 to 1957. The car was designed by André Lefebre and Flaminio Bertoni. "Traction Avant" means "front wheel drive" in French. The car became one of the most successful front-wheel drive models of 1940s: about 760 thousand units were made. The car turned out to be light and fuel-efficient. To test the new design, the Traction Avant was purposefully thrown off a cliff to check the rigidity of its body.
