Ford Cougar – overview
The Ford Cougar is a sports coupe based on the popular Mondeo family model, specially designed for Europe. It was a failed attempt by Ford to repeat the success of the Capri. Introduced in December 1998, the car received mixed reviews: not everyone liked the new New Edge styling. In the USA, the car was sold under the Mercury brand. Even ads that referred to the cult movie Easy Rider did not help the promotion of the model much. As a result, the Cougar was discontinued in August 2002. In Australia, the car lasted until 2004.
