Mitsuoka Rock Star - catalog and technical specifications
The Mitsuoka Rock Star is a car based on the fourth generation Mazda MX-5 roadster. The model was inspired by the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray (1963-1967). It used reinforced plastic panels, while keeping doors and windshield from the original Mazda body. Unlike the Corvette, the Mitsuoka Rock Star came without retractable headlights, as they were banned in Japan. The model featured a 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine with 131 hp. It was equipped with 6-speed gearboxes, paired with manual and automatic transmissions. The car had a rear-wheel drive layout. The basic equipment includes bi-xenon headlights, electric mirrors, air conditioning and all modern safety systems. The Rock Star presentation marked the 50th anniversary of Mitsuoka. A total of 200 cars were produced, all of which sold out in 4 months.
