Opel Olympia – overview
The Opel Olympia is a compact car produced by Opel from 1935 to 1970. This is one of the first models in the world to be successfully mass-produced: the number of units sold reached the figure with five zeros. Despite its long history, the car had only three generations. The very first Olympia was the first mass-produced car in Germany with an advanced all-metal single body made without the use of wood, which at that time was revolutionary. The car successfully competed with more prestigious brands, as it had everything they had, including powerful engines, but was cheaper. In the 50s, it was still based on the old version, but almost all of its components were redesigned. By the 70s, despite successful sales, the model could no longer compete with new formats and was discontinued.
