Volkswagen Taro – overview
The Volkswagen Taro is a mid-size pickup produced by the German automaker Volkswagen, produced from 1989 to 1997. It was a copy of the Japanese model, Toyota Hilux. The rear-wheel drive versions were produced in Germany, and all-wheel drive versions were made in Japan (since 1994). The vehicle was equipped with 1.8-liter (82 hp) and 2.2-liter (93 hp) gasoline carburetor engines. There were also versions with a 2.4-liter turbocharged diesel engine with 82 hp (after restyling, the output grew to 110 hp). The Taro had a spacious interior and excellent ergonomics of interior details. In addition to the standard version, the manufacturer offered a version with a longer wheelbase, which had a larger trunk.
