The AM General HMMWV is an American army utility vehicle. The name comes from the abbreviated High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle. Known as the Humvee, the car was produced for the needs of the US Army, as well as the armed forces, police and other services of some other countries. The model was produced from 1984 to 2006. The SUV had high cross-country ability, suitability for air transportation and parachute landing. The HUMMER name has been used since 1992 to designate modified civilian SUV models. The original HMMWV was equipped with a 6.2 or 6.8-liter V8 engine, automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
