Apal GT Coupe – overview
The Apal GT Coupe - the first model from the Apal brand, produced between 1961 and 1965, with only 150 units ever made. This sports coupe was based on the platform of the famous Volkswagen Beetle ("Bug"). It featured a fiberglass body, upward-opening doors, and Volkswagen engines. Essentially, it was a people's Beetle in a beautiful sports body, but 30 of the cars received engines, brakes, and gearboxes, as well as some interior details from Porsche. For nighttime racing, additional headlight kits were installed.
