The UK automaker Daimler that saw the light back in 1891 is a standalone company independent from the German Daimler AG known for its Mercedes cars. The British Daimler manufactured exclusive and executive Daimler cars until 2009. So why is it called Daimler? Well, because the UK entrepreneur Frederick Simms bought a patent authorizing him to manufacture gasoline engines from Gottlieb Daimler. In the 1960s, Daimler joined Leyland corporate group (UK) and from that time on manufactured cars sharing a unified design with Jaguar models. In 1990, Daimler became part of Ford along with Jaguar. In 2008, Ford sold Daimler, Jaguar and Land Rover to Tata Motors. The last Daimler Super Eight was released in 2009.
