Pontiac GTO - catalog and technical specifications
The Pontiac GTO is a compact or mid-size car produced by Pontiac (GM) and Holden (GM) from 1964 to 2006. The name GTO, meaning "gran turismo omologato", was borrowed from Ferrari. The very first model with this name and with an engine producing 340 hp became one of the iconic muscle cars of the golden era. The power of the engines grew until 1974, after which the power dropped to 200 hp due to the fuel crisis. At the same time, by the end of the model cycle, power and speed increased again. However, the GTO failed to meet the stricter safety requirements, so its production had to be discontinued.
