In 2009, the Rimac automotive brand was founded in Croatia to specialize in electric vehicles. The founder of the company, Mat Rimac, is a passionate car enthusiast who has frequently participated in exhibitions with his redesigned BMW 5 Series. Rimac's first model, Concept One, was developed in collaboration with the Italian studio Pininfarina and was released in 2010 being substantially a small sports car featuring a revolutionary electric motor whose power was equivalent to 1,008 HP.
