The Austrian automaker Steyr was founded in 1915 in close cooperation with German Daimler. Steyr was responsible for the design and component selection with Daimler handling the entire technological process. Close ties with the German corporate group allowed Steyr becoming a supplier of cars for the Austrian government in the 30s of the last century. At that time, Steyr created several unique limousine models bound to become legendary. It was Steyr who developed Steyr 2000 all-wheel drive army off-roader together with Ferdinand Porsche. After World War II, Steyr created its most famous off-roader, Puch G, known as the Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen. In 1990, Steyr joined Daimler corporate group and headed its Austrian branch.
