Tatra 87 - catalog and technical specifications
The Tatra 87 is a high-performance rear-engine fastback. This unique car was called the “Czech Secret Weapon”, as more than one Nazi officer crashed while driving this model, so the Reich military commanders strictly forbade driving it. The car really turned out to be very fast thanks to the aerodynamic body. It was built by Hans Ledwinka and Erich Übelacker based on the Tatra 77, the first car designed with aerodynamics in mind. Paul Jaray, designer of Graf Zeppelin airships, took part in the development. The car was equipped with a 2.9-liter V8 engine with 85 hp, providing a maximum speed of almost 160 km/h. Thus, it was one of the fastest and most fuel efficient production cars of its time. The amazing Tatra 87 was produced from 1936 to 1950.
