Wartburg 13 - catalog and technical specifications
The Wartburg 13 is a compact car produced by the East German company Automobilwerk Eisenach from 1988 to 1991. At that time, the main intrigue in the automotive industry of the GDR was the choice between 2-stroke or 4-stroke engines. 2-stroke units were installed on the early Wartburg models and at some point were already outdated, but the government did not approve of the production of 4-stroke units. However, progress is inevitable, so it was decided to create a 4-stroke engine, and then a new Wartburg with such an engine. The result was a typical East German car: durable, ascetic, weak and plain in the style of socialist realism. But its design comprised some elements of the bourgeois Volkswagen.
