The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve is faulty in the presence of the following signs: an increase in the level of emissions of harmful substances in the exhaust as a result of measuring diagnostics, increased fuel consumption, unstable idle speed and floating speed, as well as a loss of engine power, clogged particulate filter and black smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. In most cases, the repair consists only in flushing this device with a special cleaner. For more serious faults, the valve must be replaced.
