The American automaker Cord founded in 1929 got its name in honor of one of the richest men in the United States of America at that time – Errett Lobban Cord, a major shareholder of Auburn, yet another automobile brand. Cord was renowned for its innovative technology and streamlined designs. The truly luxurious Kord L29 was the first model of the brand. However, Depression-era buyers were more attracted by price than technical configuration. The next Cord 810 featured one of the world's first streamlined bodies and a front-wheel drive transmission. But it did not sell well either. Cord models were discontinued in 1937.
