The Ferrari 550 is a two-seater sports car produced in coupe and convertible bodies. The model is also known as Ferrari 550 Maranello in honor of the city where Ferrari is headquartered. Production of the supercar started in 1996. The car had a large, 5.5 liter V12 engine. The unit developed a solid power of 485 hp. An open version of the car called the 550 Barchetta was introduced in 2000 and sold 448 units. Although the car was not intended for racing, some private teams upgraded the 550 models for motorsport themselves. The Maranello’s engine won Engine of the Year in 2000 and 2001. In 2001, the model was discontinued.
