McLaren W1 – overview

The McLaren W1 is a mid-size sports 2-door coupe for public roads. McLaren's new flagship, unveiled in October 2024, is the brand's most powerful road-going hypercar to date. The entire run of 399 cars was sold out even before the premiere, with each copy starting at $2.1 million. The McLaren W1 is based on a carbon fiber monocoque, on which a push-rod suspension with horizontal shock absorbers is attached, the power plant and double wishbone suspension with conventional struts are mounted on the rear aluminum subframe. The W1's main advantage is its aerodynamics, with downforce at 280 km/h equivalent to one tonne. The hybrid installation includes a 4-liter V8 petrol engine (929 hp and 900 Nm), spinning up to 9200 rpm, an 8-speed robot with two clutches and an electric motor (346 hp and 440 Nm). The total output of the system is 1275 hp and 1340 Nm. The driving wheels are the rear ones. The hypercar accelerates to the first hundred in 2.7 seconds, with a top speed of 350 km/h. The 1.4 kWh battery can be charged from an external source; the McLaren W1 can travel only 2 km on pure electric power.
