Mercedes W105 generations

The Mercedes-Benz W105 is the internal factory designation of the rear-wheel drive E-segment sedan, produced from 1956 to 1959 under the name Mercedes-Benz 219. The W105 was nicknamed "Ponton", because the engineers used the so-called "pontoon" style in its production. The body, designed in the style of North American pontoons as interpreted by Mercedes-Benz, had a special roof and front fenders integrated into the body, which stood out against the background of Daimler-Benz vehicles of the post-war period. A similar solution was subsequently applied to many cars of the company. The new technologies have made the car especially comfortable and spacious. The car was equipped with a 2.2-liter in-line 6-cylinder engine.
