SsangYong Istana – overview
The SSangYong Istana is a minibus produced from 1995 to 2003. It was offered in 2-seater cargo and passenger versions; the latter had 9, 12 or 15 seats. The name "Istana" means "palace" in Malay and Indonesian, and is the name given to presidential residences in both Singapore and Indonesia. This popular vehicle was based on the Mercedes-Benz MB100 minibus. It borrowed a front-wheel drive chassis and strong units from the German model. Thus, it featured 2.9-liter 5-cylinder engines and a reliable manual gearbox. Unlike the Mercedes-Benz MB100, the Korean model had 4 small rear seats instead of three.
