Zimmer Motor Cars is an American manufacturer of neo-classic automobiles. The company was initially registered in Ohio, USA. Production facilities were located in Pompano Beach (Florida). In the late 70s of the last century, Americans began to show interest in pre-war cars. The fashion for neoclassics has arrived. On this wave, in 1978, Paul Zimmer founded the Zimmer Motorcars Corporation, to organize the production of modern cars in a neoclassical style. According to the official legend, the idea for the first neoclassical car came to Paul during dinner with his son Bob, the future president of the company. This is how Golden Spirit, the flagship of the Zimmer lineup, was born, originally drawn on an ordinary restaurant napkin. The recipe for creating a car is simple: the extended platform of the rear-wheel drive Mercury Cougar coupe was joined by protruding fenders, a long hood with a vertical grille, chrome side pipes, round headlights and other elements of the 30s style. Decorated with a gilded figurine of an eagle, the Golden Spirit looked quite impressive, especially against the background of the monotonous American automobile industry of the 80s. In 1988, due to Paul Zimmer's illness, the company found itself in dire financial straits and declared bankruptcy. In 1997, the Zimmer brand was bought by Art Zimmer, coincidentally the namesake of the company's founder, who renamed the company Art Zimmer Neo-Classic Motor Car Company, moved its headquarters to Jamesville (New York) and built an assembly plant in Cambridge (Maryland). There, small-scale production of Golden Spirit coupes, convertibles and sedans on the Ford Mustang and Lincoln Town Car platforms resumed. When manufacturing its models, the company practically does not touch the original chassis and interior, so Zimmer cars can be serviced at Ford dealers. The company now produces 10-20 models per year and has offices in North America and the Middle East.
