Audi A4 is a D-class passenger car from the German automobile manufacturer Audi AG, which is a part of the Volkswagen Group. Manufactured since 1994. Today in the Israeli market, you can buy the fifth generation of the Audi A4 sedan after the 2019 restyling. The history of the A4 - a middle-class car with front-wheel or four-wheel drive and a longitudinal engine - has been going on since 1994. The Audi A4 is the successor of the iconic Audi 80, produced between 1986 and 1994. Today, the Audi A4 is the legendary car brand’s bestseller with the highest production volumes.
First generation
The first generation of the Audi A4 was produced from 1994 to 1999, undergoing restyling in 1996. The reason for the modernization of the Audi 80 was the desire to compete with the more popular German middle class cars of BMW and Mercedes. The main changes were made to the body of the first A4 – it was produced on the Volkswagen B5 platform. The first A4 was warmly received by the car community. Almost 2 years after the first show of the A4 sedan, Audi brought to the market an estate and a four-wheel drive modification of the A4 Quattro. The top sports package of the S4 has also entered the market. In total, the A4 sedan of the first generation received even 67 modifications, and the 5-door estate - 64.
Second generation
The second generation of Audi A4 was produced from 2000 to 2006 in the following bodies: 4-door sedan, 5-door estate and 2-door convertible. The second Audi A4 was launched on the new B6 platform. The beginning of the new millennium was marked by new requirements for the safety and comfort of middle-class cars, which led to the development of an improved Audi 4 vehicle line. Improved body strength, growing engine power, incomparable smooth ride and road grip, the introduction of air conditioning in the cab - all this distinguished the second generation A4 cars.
Third generation
The third generation of Audi A4 was produced from 2004 to 2009. A lot has changed in the third A4! The front part was completely updated, the rear bumper was added, in general, the A4 features became smoother, which gave the car the corporate identity of Audi. Modernization of the third A4 affected the shock absorbers and accumulator springs, which significantly changed the suspension kinematics for the better. The chassis has approached the characteristics of the older A6 family, the dynamics have become comparable to the sports packages of the S4 car.
Fourth generation
The fourth generation Audi A4 was produced from 2007 to 2015, having gone through restyling in 2011. The fourth A4 retained its recognizable features but became better, larger, and more elegant. Car trim has once again become more expensive. All this brought A4 sedans closer to the upper-class and made them the most popular cars among all Audi AG products. Like the older Audi cars, the fourth A4 has been upgraded with improved safety features. Now electronics could track road signs, automatically stop driving at low speed, determine the driver’s condition by his driving style. In 2011, the five millionth car from the Audi A4 family was released - the Avant sedan.
Fifth generation
The fifth generation of the Audi A4 has been produced from 2015 to the present, having gone through a restyling in 2019. The fifth A4 has changed slightly but it has become a little larger, and a little more aggressive in design. The shape of the rear lights of the car has changed. On the front, there are sensors for monitoring equipment and a thermal imager. The weight of the car has decreased, which, together with improved aerodynamics, reduced fuel consumption. The wheelbase has been lengthened, which has added space to the cabin.
The restyling of 2019 is reflected in the most significant characteristics of the Audi A4. Both the appearance and the vehicle system of the car have changed.
The anatomical shape of the seats, the ergonomic dashboard, and a minimum of buttons on the steering wheel add comfort to the new Audi A4. The fifth generation A4 received an upgraded platform with significantly redesigned 5-link rear suspension, adaptive shock absorbers with an emphasis on sporty or comfortable driving, and advanced steering. In addition to the front-wheel drive Audi A4 sedan, Israeli buyers have the option of purchasing the A4 Quattro four-wheel-drive version.
The new Audi A4 2019/2020 is the result of a planned update. The restylinging carried out affected the most significant characteristics. Both the appearance and the equipment of the car have changed.
