Alfa Romeo Alfasud – overview
The Alfa Romeo Alfasud can rightly be considered one of the most successful production models of Alfa Romeo. The compact 3 or 5-door hatchback, produced from 1971 to 1983, was nicknamed "Sud" (South), which was due to the fact that it was produced in a poor southern region of Italy at a special factory built to provide more job opportunities. The model was designed by the Austrian Rudolf Hruska, while its body was developed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The car featured the water-cooled boxer engines, a complex suspension, a low center of gravity, and best-in-class aerodynamics. As a result, the Alfa Romeo Alfasud had superior performance, good handling and traction that its competitors were only able to achieve 10 years later.
