Mitsubishi Galant – overview
The Mitsubishi Galant is a mid-size sports car introduced in 1969. Its 8th generation was probably the most famous, beautiful and successful. The car was nicknamed "Shark" due to its stunning appearance. The Mitsubishi Galant was also called "Japanese BMW" due to the twin headlights and excellent handling. The car was offered with engines with the volumes of 1.8, 2.0, 2.4 and 2.5 liters, manual and automatic transmissions. The 4 and 5-speed automatic transmissions had a manual mode and an adaptive algorithm. Introduced in 1996, the GDI direct injection system had no analogues in the world. There were front-wheel drive modifications and options with permanent all-wheel drive. A powerful sports version, the Mitsubishi Galant VR-4, with a 2.5-liter twin-turbocharged engine developed 280 hp and featured the rally technologies. The ninth generation put an end to the iconic status of the Shark: the new car looked thick-sided and "ungallant". Only the name remained.
