Trabant car models in Israel

The German automaker Trabant was founded in 1949 in the German Democratic Republic based on Audi and DKW factories. Trabant manufactured models similar to pre-war DKW vehicles. The cars were popular due to their reasonable value for money and durability of its load-bearing components. It was only in 1956 that Trabant released its first own development featuring an air-cooled carburetor engine and in 1959 it launched the manufacturing of unique minicars with an engine whose volume was only 499 cubic centimeters. Trabant even had a car with a plastic body called “Tramp”! In 1989, Trabant came under the control of Volkswagen and the brand was discontinued.
