Passing the annual test

All cars older than 3 years in Israel must undergo an annual technical inspection (Test). The date of the next Test is set in Rishayon Rehev. During the technical inspection, the car is only examined, no repairs are made. Therefore, if the car has any obvious faults, they should be eliminated BEFORE passing the Test.

Which cars must pass the annual test

  • Personal car older than 3 years - every year
  • Personal car older than 20 years - once every 6 months
  • Cars used on lease and rental - every 2 years
  • Other vehicles, including motorcycles and ATVs - every year

Buyers of new cars are exempt from mandatory testing (technical inspection) for the duration of the warranty period (3-5 years), but must still pay a license fee annually.

What documents are needed to pass the Test?

  • Printed Rishayon Rehev with a stamp indicating payment of the license fee
  • Printed compulsory car insurance policy (הובה)
  • Teudat Zeut - Original
  • Driver's license - original

Test deadlines

The test must be taken BEFORE the expiration of the current license. But no later than 60 days from the expiration of the previous Rishayon Rechev.

It is prohibited to drive a vehicle with an expired Test! If this does happen, use a tow truck to deliver the vehicle to the Test location.

Important

How to take the Test

  • To pass the technical test, you must contact a licensed company (מכון הרישוי). Payment for the test is made on site
  • For vehicles over 15 years old, you must first contact a Licensed Garage to have the brake system checked and obtain a certificate of successful testing.
  • If the Test reveals that the license plate is damaged, it must be replaced. The replacement will be free of charge if no more than 5 years have passed since the plate was issued.
  • Upon successful completion of the Test, a stamp will be placed in Rishayon Rechev. Without such a stamp, the Test is considered failed.

If you failed the Test

  • If the vehicle has not passed the Test (inspection) and the defects found can be corrected at a licensed center, the required repairs must be carried out. Then you must contact the inspector to confirm that they have been carried out. Then you must go to the center's office to receive a stamp at Rishayon Rehev and a sticker for the windshield.
  • If the defects cannot be corrected at a licensed center, the repair must be carried out at an authorized car service center. In this case, a temporary ‘permit to drive’ will be issued for a period of 7 days. After the repair at the car service center is completed, the Test must be taken again at a licensed center (an additional fee is charged for the repeated Test)

The new Rishayon Rehev for a vehicle will only come into effect after the full payment of the license fee and successful completion of the Test.

Important

The printed version of the vehicle license is an official document.
