BMW 1500 – overview
The BMW 1500 is a mid-size 4-door 5-seater sedan produced from 1962 to 1964. The first production sedan assembled by BMW after World War II, it marked the revival of German automobile manufacturing, marked the beginning of a new era in the company's development and laid the foundation for future success. The first-born of the BMW Neue Klasse family was able to pull the company out of a series of problems and troubles and largely formed the spirit of the BMW brand that we know today - a combination of sports, technology, high quality and innovation. Fritz Fiedler led the project, Eberhard Wolf was responsible for the chassis, Alex von Falkenhausen developed the engine, and Wilhelm Hofmeister was in charge of the design. The BMW 1500 had a design typical of the time with rounded shapes and chrome details. The 3-volume body made of steel had a pronounced waist line, including the hood and trunk. Large glass areas and a high driver's seat provided excellent visibility. The rear doors received the so-called "Hofmeister kink", which later became the hallmark of BMW. The sedan looked elegant, but at the same time it was simple and practical. Therefore, it gained popularity among young drivers, who especially appreciated the 1500 for its dynamics, comfort, excellent control, economy and availability. Under the hood, there is a 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a volume of 1.5 liters and a power of 75 hp. It was paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. Suspension - independent on all wheels. Brakes - disc in front and drum in the rear.
