Mercury Tracer – overview
The Mercury Tracer is a compact car, a copy of the Ford Laser and Mazda 323. Production began in Japan and Mexico in 1987. It was offered as 3 and 5-door hatchbacks or estates. The model featured a 1.6-liter engine with 82 hp. The second generation was a copy of the Ford Escort. It was produced in Mexico, featuring a 1.9-liter engine with 88 hp or a more powerful 1.8-liter engine from Mazda, which developed 127 hp. The final third generation received a completely new body with an aerodynamic design and a 2-liter engine with 110 hp, paired with a manual transmission or 4-speed automatic transmission. In 1999, the model was discontinued.
