Mitsubishi Pajero – overview
The Mitsubishi Pajero is a mid-size SUV, one of the main models in the history of Mitsubishi. It was named after the pampas wild cat, Leopardus Pajeros. The first production version was presented at the 1981Tokyo Motor Show, and sales began a year later. The vehicle was designed as a luxurious, but durable competitor to the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, and eventually surpassed it in many ways. The first three generations of the SUV literally crushed rivals in the rally and brought Mitsubishi the title of "Most Dakar Rally wins among manufacturers" in the Guinness World Records. The Mitsubishi Pajero was distinguished by an attractive design combined with outstanding cross-country ability and advanced technologies. The SUV was equipped with engines with the world's first GDI direct injection technology, invented in 1996, and INVECS automatic adaptive transmissions, recognized at that time as the best in the world. The vehicle received an off-road Super Select transmission and a frame integrated into the body, which made it possible to drive an SUV like a true off-road vehicle. In 2021, the Mitsubishi Pajero was discontinued. Thus, the legend has become a thing of the past.
