Volkswagen LT – overview
Volkswagen LT is a large family of multi-purpose vehicles, small and medium-duty vans and trucks, passenger vans and minibuses. Produced from 1975 to 2007 in two generations. The name was chosen as an abbreviation from the German Lasten-Transporter, which translated means “transport for the transportation of goods.” The total weight of the representatives of the Volkswagen LT line ranged from 2.8-5.6 tons. The weight was indicated by the digital index of the models - LT 28, LT 45. Later, the heaviest version, LT 55, appeared. The wheelbase was available in three sizes: 2500, 2950 or 3650 mm. The vans were offered with a low or high roof. There were even all-wheel drive versions. The second generation Volkswagen LT of 1996, developed in partnership with Mercedes-Benz, received a “double” - the Mercedes Sprinter. However, each manufacturer had its own engines, transmission and front end design.
