The Audi Q2 is the smallest SUV manufactured by Volkswagen Group (Germany) since 2016. In 2021, Israeli buyers can purchase the first generation SUV after the 2020 restyling.

With its Q2 model, Audi has managed to enter the class of luxury subcompact SUVs. The new car was the breakthrough of the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show. The small parquet SUV from Ingolstadt looks different from the older Q-brothers, while being in line with the brand’s corporate style and featuring superb equipment.

Exterior

The exterior of the 2020 Audi Q2 complies with the corporate identity of the brand. The body shapes have clear lines and sharp corners. Despite its compactness (the length of the crossover is only 4,191 mm), it looks impressive and dynamic. The designers painted a rather aggressive ‘face’ with ‘frowned’ optics and an octagonal radiator grille. By the way, the restyled version has new bumpers and radiator grille, which does not affect the overall perception of the vehicle. LED headlights are now standard equipment. For an extra charge, you can order matrix head optics with winking lights.

The vehicle features embossed sides, a slightly sloping coupe-like roof, and a high line of windows, raising some doubts about good visibility. The image is completed by a sporty stern with large taillights and an expressive rear bumper. If you look closely, you can see the wide C-pillar painted in a dark color, which is different from the main one. The SUV is almost 4.2 m long, 1,794 mm wide and 1,508 mm high. The wheelbase is 2,595 mm, and the ground clearance is as much as 200 mm.

Interior

The interior of the restyled Audi Q2 is laconic and minimalist, which only emphasizes the excellent quality of finishing materials. Above the round airplane-inspired deflectors is an 8.3-inch monitor of the multimedia system, which controls most of the functions. The Germans decided to keep the MMI Navigation Plus media system with a now rare passive screen and a control switch in the central tunnel, although other Audi cars are switching to touchscreen displays. But the multimedia system has been upgraded, acquiring additional online capabilities and a Wi-Fi transmitter. At the bottom is a simple dual-zone climate control unit.

It is pleasant to see a simple 12.3-inch digital dashboard (comes as an option, whereas analog instruments with a color display of the on-board computer are standard) and a relief multifunctional steering wheel with a three-spoke design. The front seats of the SUV are perfectly profiled seats with good lateral support and the widest range of settings. There is enough space at the back for two. The little Audi’s trunk is comfortable and spacious enough: its volume is 405 liters. The backrests of the rear seats are split 40:60 and fold into a completely flat area, which increases the cargo compartment to 1,050 liters.

Powertrains

The new Q2 can be equipped with six engines, combined with a 6-speed manual transmission or 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. By default, the SUV is front-wheel drive, but quattro all-wheel drive technology is also available. One option is supplied to Israel: front-wheel drive with a 1.5-liter TFSI engine generating 150 hp at 6,000-5,000 rpm. It is paired with a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. It has manual and automatic modes, and two programs to choose from: D mode for normal driving or the more dynamic S mode.

The maximum speed of this Q2 is 218 km/h, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 8.6 seconds. Fuel consumption is 5.4 liters per 100 km in the mixed mode. The new Audi Q2 is built on a modular MQB platform with a transverse engine and extensive use of high-strength steels in the body structure. The SUV is equipped with a MacPherson strut suspension at the front and a semi-independent torsion-beam suspension at the rear.

The vehicle is standardly equipped with progressive steering with a rack-mounted electric power steering. The SUV features disc brakes on all the wheels, with the front ones being ventilated. Plus, there is a package of modern ‘assistants’, including ABS, EBD, BA, etc.

Trim levels

There are three trim levels in Israel: Tech Pack, Comfort and Luxury. By default, the 2020/2021 Audi Q2 comes with front and side airbags, air conditioning, ABS, ESP, fabric interior, active power steering, standard sound system, MMI multimedia center and much more. The trim levels intended for Israel include: a large panoramic sunroof made of tinted glass, keyless entry, LED headlights. Optional equipment includes: adaptive chassis, powerful Bang & Olufsen sound system, etc.

Israeli Q2s are equipped with the following safety systems:

  • Audi Pre Sense Front. The system uses radar to monitor the road surface in front of the vehicle and analyze the information. The system is capable of detecting situations that may be critical, such as a front-to-back collision, to warn and help handle the situation. The system includes identification of pedestrians and cyclists. If a dangerous situation is detected, it will warn you visually and audibly. If required, the system applies full braking to reduce or completely prevent the accident.
  • Lane Departure Warning System. The system warns when the vehicle unexpectedly crosses the lane. The system is active at speeds between 60 and 250 km/h and is activated when starting off.
  • Adaptive cruise control system. Radar-powered adaptive cruise control helps regulate the speed and distance between your vehicle and the vehicles in front. The system can accelerate and brake the SUV as needed, is active over the entire range from 0 to 210 km/h and is capable of completely stopping the Audi Q2.
