Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. Second generation 2023
The second generation of the fashionable coupe-like SUV has acquired many new features and technologies that make the new Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe more convenient and safer for the driver and passengers. The most important innovation is the all-wheel-drive chassis (optional) and off-road driving mode. The steering rear axle reduces the turning radius by 90 cm, to 10.9 meters. In addition, from now on, all powertrains are hybrid: mild or plug-in. In its production form, the new generation SUV will appear in the summer of 2023.
It's unclear how all these upgrades will influence the price of the new GLC Coupe. For information: in Israel, the entry-level version of the restyled first generation costs from 514,687 shekels (as of March 2023). The new 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC will be sold at a price of 470,000 shekels.
Exterior
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe follows new fashion trends with smooth and flowing surfaces. Modern design looks more dynamic and elegant: slanted headlights of a complex shape and a pattern of three-pointed stars on the radiator grille. All optics have been updated, the shape of the bumpers and the radiator grill have changed. The Avantgarde Line package with chrome trim has become standard. The vehicle has become 31 mm longer compared to its predecessor (up to 4,763 mm), 5 mm higher and has kept the same width (1,890 mm). The panoramic roof of the coupe-like SUV is 6 cm longer than that of the regular GLC SUV. The drag coefficient has decreased from 0.30 to 0.27. The wheel radius ranges from 18 to 20 inches, while the plug-in hybrids are equipped with tires of different widths.
Interior and equipment
The new GLC Coupe has received an improved interior that provides a higher level of comfort. The passenger compartment features high quality materials and comfortable adjustable seats allowing the driver and passengers to customize the seats to their taste. The trunk has become more spacious: the volume is from 545 to 1,490 liters (mild hybrids) and from 390 to 1,335 liters (plug-in hybrids).
The 12.3-inch virtual dashboard is now standard. The driver-facing 11.9-inch central media display supports a wide range of features, including navigation and wireless connectivity to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is wireless charging for mobile devices. For an extra charge, you can get the Energizing Plus package: various relaxation programs, multi-contour seats, a two-stage air purification system, and a built-in fragrance. The safety and driver assistance options include adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and automatic emergency braking system.
Chassis and engines
For the first time, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe has a steerable rear axle, available as an option in combination with air suspension (technology package). Compared to the C-Class, the maximum steering angle is not 2.5, but 4.5 degrees. The turning circle has been reduced by 90 cm to 10.9 meters. The GLC Coupé comes standard with variable steering and a sports suspension. The SUVs have an off-road driving mode and a descent assistant. When ordering an all-round view system, you can also get the ‘transparent’ hood function. Plus, there is the Trailer Manoeuvring Assist system.
The range of engines of the second generation GLC Coupe includes electrified powertrains: now all SUVs are either mild hybrids or PHEV-type hybrids. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines are supplemented with a 48-volt starter-generator, which adds 23 hp and 200 Nm. The engines work with a 9G-Tronis 9-speed automatic gearbox. The model is all-wheel drive. The most dynamic version is the GLC 300, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds.
There are three plug-in hybrids, one of which is diesel. They are based on the same 2.0-liter engine and an electric motor built into the gearbox with a return of 136 hp and 440 Nm. The most powerful gasoline hybrid can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, while the diesel one does it in 6.4. On electric traction, the SUVs travel 113-131 km within the WLPT cycle.
