Dacia Sandero. Real success
In August 2021, the Dacia Sandero compact hatchback became the best-selling model on the European market. It managed to top the rating in July. However, the Dacia cars are not so easy to find. For example, the new generation has not yet reached Israel, although the cars were expected to appear at the beginning of the year. Nevertheless, Renault’s offshoot has managed to sell 14,961 Sandero cars in August. This is 8% more than in July.
The third generation cars, which debuted in September 2020, are equipped with a 1-liter turbocharged engine (90 hp) and a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT, or a 1.0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline three-cylinder engine (65 hp) and a 5-speed manual transmission, or a gas turbocharged engine (100 HP) and a manual transmission. The Sandero’s chassis is traditional for this model with a MacPherson strut suspension at the front and a semi-independent suspension at the rear. The car comes with the electric power steering. The standard equipment includes six airbags, cruise control, LED headlights, automatic braking and blind spot monitoring system. The new Sandero is built on the modern CMF platform.
What other models do Europeans choose? The second place belongs to the Volkswagen Golf with a sales volume of 13,664 cars, which is a serious drop, as it is 38%. The third place belongs to the Toyota Yaris compact hatchback sold in the amount of 12,594 cars, which is 18% higher. The fourth place belongs to another Dacia model, the Dacia Duster SUV with a sales volume of 11,327 cars. A 4% increase allowed Duster to overtake the Volkswagen’s T-Roc miniature SUV, the sales of which fell 6% to 11,179 units.
In 2021, Israeli buyers can still purchase the second generation Sandero after the 2016 restyling. It is delivered to us with two versions of 1.0-liter gasoline engines. One of them is turbocharged with an output of 90 hp, while the second one comes without a turbocharger and has an output of 73 hp. The first engine ensures acceleration to 175 km/h, while the second gives out a maximum of 158 km/h. But their average fuel consumption is about the same, reaching 5.4-5.6 liters per 100 km. The turbocharged engine is complemented by a 5-speed robotic gearbox, and the one without a turbocharger comes with a 5-speed manual transmission.
