Ford has upgraded the Fiesta family
The Ford Fiesta is a 3 or 5-door compact front-wheel drive hatchback, manufactured since 1976 by Ford (USA). In 2017, the manufacturer released the seventh generation Fiesta that has borrowed the chassis and body from the sixth generation, released in 2008. It is not yet known whether the manufacturer will release the eighth Fiesta, as the demand for the model has fallen, and it is sold solely in Europe. On September 16, 2021, an upgraded hatchback was presented, which, apparently, should help the four-wheeled veteran of the subcompact segment overcome the crisis. The upgraded Fiesta will be on sale in early 2022.
The Ford Fiesta is one of the most popular cars in Europe and is only slightly inferior to its competitor Volkswagen Golf.
The exterior of the 2021 Ford Fiesta has not changed too much, although the hatchback has changed both the front bumper, and the hood, and the radiator grille. The latter has become larger and now features an enlarged emblem, a blue oval, previously ‘sitting’ above, on the upper section of the bumper, into which the grille was built. The grille filling pattern differs depending on the modification: after all, thanks to the cross-version and the sporty ST, as well as the Fiesta Van, the hatchback has a large family. The car is equipped with LED head optics, which come standard on the entry-level models. Adaptive matrix headlights and diode taillights appeared in the options. There are new 17- and 18-inch rims and a couple of new body colors with romantic names: Boundless Blue and Beautiful Berry.
Inside, the 2021/2022 Ford Fiesta features a new 12.3-inch digital dashboard with multiple imaging options. But you can buy it for a surcharge, as the entry-level cars have only analog devices. The Sync 3 media system has a modernized ‘filling’, but the screen is the same 8-inch. The top-end Vignale has been transformed into a ‘premium package’, which includes huge wheels with a diameter of 17 or 18 inches, leather upholstery, wireless charging for smartphones and a B&O sound system (575 W) with ten speakers, a subwoofer and amplifier.
Interesting facts: Each Ford Fiesta contains over 1 km of electrical wiring. The buyer can choose from more than 11,400 hatchback options. The car is sold in 62 countries around the world. A total of 110 car are produced every day.
The range of engines has been slightly narrowed. Last year the range lost its diesel engine, followed by the simplest 1.1-liter petrol naturally-aspirated engine with 75 hp. There are now 1.0 EcoBoost turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engines to choose from. The base motor develops 100 hp, and as an alternative to it, you can choose more powerful versions with a hybrid system, giving out 125 and 155 hp. All engines are coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission, while a 7-speed Powershift transmission is available for a 125 hp version.
The 2021/2022 Sport Fiesta ST is ‘packed’ better: matrix headlights are now standard, and the interior features new seats. The car is equipped with a 1.5 EcoBoost turbocharged engine with 200 hp. Its maximum torque has increased up to 320 Nm (versus the previous 290). However, this did make the model more dynamics, so its acceleration occurs in 6.5 seconds 100 km/h. The list of safety systems of the restyled car includes the Wrong-Way Alert system, which monitors whether you drive in the right lane.
