The Audi A3 is a compact luxury car produced by Audi (Germany) since 1996 in sedan, hatchback and convertible bodies. Throughout its lifetime, the model has repeatedly won prestigious awards in different countries. In 2021, the manufacturer released a new, fourth generation, introduced in the spring of 2020. In Israel, the model is presented in a sedan body and a five-door hatchback. Our review will focus on the hatchback.

Exterior

The new Audi A3 Sportback hatchback looks stylish, moderately aggressive and very eye-catching. Stylish head optics with an elegant pattern of daytime running lights makes the car easily recognizable. Apart from the standard LED headlights, there are also optional Audi Matrix intelligent LED headlights. They not only provide better illumination of the road, but also prevent dazzling the drivers of other vehicles. The car profile looks swift: the roofline has become a little more sloping, and the windows in the rear pillars are slightly smaller.

The fourth generation A3 is built on the MQB platform. Firstly, there will be no more 3-door version in the range. Secondly, the hatchback has become slightly longer and wider. The car is now 4,340 mm long and 1,820 mm wide. At the same time, the height and wheelbase (2,637 mm) are the same. The trunk volume has been increased from 340 to 380 liters, and by folding the second-row seats, the owner of the 2020 Audi A3 will get 1,200 liters.

Interior

The interior has changed significantly compared to its predecessor. The main innovation is the multimedia display fitted to the front panel, slightly turned towards the driver and has a diagonal of 10.1 inches even in the entry-level version. The traditional dashboard has been replaced by a virtual dashboard with a large 12.3-inch screen. An optional head-up display is also available. Like other Audi models, the A3 has a beautiful design, impeccable ergonomics, excellent materials and a thought-out composition.

Powertrains

In Israel, the 2020/2021 Audi A3 hatchbacks and sedans come with a single engine. This is a 1.5-liter turbocharged TFSI petrol engine (150 hp), coupled with a 7-speed S tronic transmission (other options are not available). For greater efficiency, the car has a hybrid system that includes a 48-volt starter-generator. It helps when starting off, works within the ‘Start-Stop’ system and allows you to save up to 0.4 liters of petrol per 100 km. These modifications feature multi-link suspensions.

At the start of sales, all A3s are front-wheel drive. The manufacturer’s range will later offer four-wheel drive versions, a full-fledged hybrid, as well as the simplest version with a 1.0-liter turbocharged engine and a semi-independent rear suspension.

Equipment

The standard equipment of the 2021/2022 Audi A3 hatchback (versions for Israel) includes the following safety systems: Active Lane Assist, Audi Pre sense front, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring System and 6 airbags. The car boasts the latest MMI Touch multimedia system (10.1-inch screen), panoramic roof, keyless entry, etc.

There is also a sedan version of the Audi A3. Your choice?
