A hybrid modification of the Honda Civic e: HEV, designed specifically for the European market, was introduced in the spring of 2022 as part of the release of the 11th generation Honda Civic. The release of the e: HEV means that the electrification of Honda’s European model range is complete. We have mentioned earlier that the new Civic will be delivered to Europe exclusively as a hybrid hatchback. And now this car is finally available in Israel. The start of sales was announced by Meir, an importer of Honda models on the Israeli market. The car with a 183 hp hybrid system and rich equipment will receive a full set of advanced safety systems. In Israel, it will be offered in three trim levels at prices ranging from 179,900 to 209,900 shekels.

Honda Civic sedan. 11th generation, 2021

The new 11th generation Honda Civic was unveiled in spring 2021 under the slogan ‘Modern expression of classic civic values both inside and outside’. And it differs completely from the previous model. The car has turned out to be balanced, energetic and, at the same time, solid and ‘mature’. The sedan looks wider due to horizontal lighting, has become 33 mm longer (4,674 mm), and its wheelbase has increased by 36 mm (2,736 mm). In order to reduce vibrations, new rubber-metal hinges are installed everywhere. The body has become 8% torsionally stiffer (the best figure in the model’s history).

The top-end version comes with a 10.2-inch digital dashboard display. There are two infotainment system versions with the 7- or 9-inch screens, and in both cases it offers handles and hardware buttons for the most important functions. Qi-compatible wireless charging has appeared. For the first time the model has side airbags for the rear seats. Moreover, the new Civic is Honda’s first production model to feature new frontal airbags borrowed from more expensive Acura cars. A new generation of Honda Sensing safety systems is standard. In Israel, the 2022 Honda Civic sedan was offered with a 1.5-liter turbo engine producing 182 hp, an updated CVT and front-wheel drive. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 8.4 seconds, while the maximum speed is 226 km/h.

Exterior

The new Honda Civic e hybrid: HEV debuted in spring 2022. The car is 4,551 mm long, 1,802 mm wide, its wheelbase is 2,734 mm. The trunk volume is 345 liters. The chrome exhaust pipes are not visible at the rear (there are pipes, but they are hidden), a black border has appeared on the diffuser, and there is the e: HEV badge on the door.

Interior and equipment

The interior of the car is finished with high quality materials. The car has a multifunctional steering wheel, a digital dashboard (7 inches for the entry level version, 10.25 inches for the top version) and an infotainment system equipped with a screen 9-inch, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Honda has not succumbed to the trend of using only touch screens and uses intuitive and convenient physical buttons.

Safety

A lane keeping assist system, a low speed braking control system, a blind spot monitoring system.

The car will feature an updated Honda Sensing electronic driver assistance package, which includes a 100-degree wide-view front camera, advanced sign recognition technology including rear traffic, lane keeping assist, low speed braking control, blind spot monitoring, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, as well as 11 airbags (!). This allowed the car to receive the highest Euro NCAP 5-star safety rating.

Engine and fuel consumption

The 2023 Honda Civic e: HEV features the same system as all the latest Honda hybrids: it consists of a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated Atkinson cycle gasoline direct injection engine. It is accompanied by two electric motors (one turns the front wheels, the second is docked to the internal combustion engine), a single-speed gearbox and a lithium-ion battery. The maximum total power of the engine is 183 hp and 324 Nm. Honda promises an average fuel consumption of 20.8 to 19.6 km per liter, depending on the trim level, and a carbon footprint of less than 110 g/km. There are Eco, Normal, Sport and Individual modes. It takes the car 7.9-8.1 seconds to accelerate from 0-100 km/h, while the top speed is 180 km/h.
