The Renault Grand Scenic is a seven-seater minivan produced by Renault (France) since 2003, is a long-body version of the Scenic compact van, both built on the modular CMF platform.

Distinctive features

The Grand Scenic differs from the original vehicle by a larger wheelbase, increased rear overhang and a third row of seats. In general, its body has become 224 mm longer, leading to a different design of the sidewalls behind the B-pillar. Moreover, the vehicle can boast of L-shaped rear lights instead of horizontal ones, the bumper and the fifth door of a different shape. There are other differences: the ground clearance is 160 mm, while it is 170 mm for the short version. Compared to the previous generation, the model has become significantly larger: it is 4,634 mm long (+ 75 mm), 1,864 wide (+ 20 mm) and 1,658 high (+ 15 mm). The wheelbase has become 35 mm larger (up to 2,804).

In addition to the impressive ground clearance (the previous generation was low: the ground clearance was only 130 mm), the new Renault Grand Scenic acquired crossover features in the form of massive wheel arches, plastic door sills and large 195/55 R20 wheels.

The interior design of the 2016 Grand Scenic seven-seater version does not differ from the basic model: there is the same sliding module of the central tunnel, virtual devices and a vertical ‘tablet’ of the multimedia system. A special remote control in the trunk can fold the backs of the second and third seat rows in the compact van: just press the buttons and the interior will be transformed. At the same time, the floor in the trunk is almost flat. The trunk volume varies from 765 to 922 liters (without the backrests down). Plus, the seats can be folded right from the driver’s seat by clicking the corresponding icons in the multimedia system menu!

Engines

The 2016/2017 Renault Grand Scenic is equipped with a 1.3 liter turbocharged petrol direct injection engine producing 140 or 159 hp. In the first case, the engine accelerates the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds, while the maximum speed is 198 km/h and the fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 7.4 liters per 100 km. A more powerful modification has the following indicators: acceleration of 9.9 seconds, maximum speed of 207 km/h, and average consumption of 7.4 liters. Both engine versions are coupled with the 7-speed EDC pre-selective dual clutch semi-automatic transmission.

Trim levels

The Renault Grand Scenic Intense is equipped with the R-Link multimedia system with a 7-inch screen, navigation and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear view camera, parking sensors, rain and light sensors, cruise control, etc. As for electronic assistants, the vehicle has a lot to offer: blind spot monitoring system and lane departure warning system, as well as ABS with EBD, ESP and a frontal collision avoidance system. The second trim level is more advanced. The Executive trim includes: LED interior lighting, Ambient lightning, electric front seats, R-Link multimedia system with a 8.7-inch screen, adaptive cruise control, Multisense, ABS with EBD, ESP, parking assistance system, etc.
