Ford Edge Plus. Another Chinese Ford
The Ford Edge Plus is a local car for the Chinese market, based on the popular Ford Edge within the 2020 restyling. The 2019 version, which is sold in Israel, has received a 3-row passenger compartment and modernized equipment, becoming another Chinese Ford Edge. For the sake of decency, the car was given the Plus prefix, beloved in China. The vehicle boasts a modified exterior and a new interior. The updated SUV entered the market in December 2020. But already in 2023, it was replaced by the new Ford Edge L.
In Israel, the Ford Edge is offered in a 5-seater version. There are front-wheel drive versions with a 2.0-liter turbo engine with 248 hp and all-wheel drive versions with a 2.7-liter V6 engine with 330 hp. The cost starts from 243,402 shekels (as of March 2023).
In markets other than China, the Ford Edge is only offered as a 5-seater model. But especially for China, the manufacturer has developed a longer, 3-row version. The Changan Ford joint venture launched production of such cars in 2017, presenting an updated version with the Plus prefix at the end of 2020.
Exterior
The longer version is 4,878 mm long and comes with an optional third row. After the 2020 update, the SUV has been slightly redesigned, receiving a new front bumper, a wider grille that is in contact with the headlights. Externally, the new Ford Edge Plus looks harmonious, because the rear overhang has been increased by only 10 cm compared to the global 5-door version. The 7-seater version has a slightly different rear end shape. The SUV is 1,928 mm wide and 1,742 mm high.
Interior
The vehicle comes with 2 new 8-inch (dashboard) and 13.2-inch (multimedia) displays, and the total diagonal of the unit has grown to 21 inches. There is a new multifunction steering wheel. The rest of the center console has been revised, acquiring a hidden power outlet, USB port and wireless charger. The new climate control unit has touch buttons. The SUV features the V2X (Vehicle to X) system, designed to exchange information with other vehicles and road infrastructure about traffic jams, road repairs, etc.
Powertrains
The new Ford Edge Plus is powered by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost inline 4-cylinder engine with 245 hp and 390 Nm (versus the previous 350 Nm), paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive versions are available. The sports Ford Edge ST with a 2.7-liter V6 engine with a capacity of 322 hp is not available in China due to the low demand.
