Rolls-Royce Wraith Coupe. The first generation, 2016 restyling
The Rolls-Royce Wraith hardtop coupe is a full-size Grand Turismo luxury car manufactured by Rolls-Royce since 2013. The model has borrowed its chassis from the Ghost model. It is a two-door coupe without pillars, featuring coach doors, a powerful engine and an exceptionally luxury interior. The new Wraith is the ideological successor to the 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith model. The car is designed for those who prefer the elite vehicles, but choose independent driving. It is for those who want to be truly in charge of this marvelous car. In 2016, the Wraith underwent a restyling, which we will discuss in our review.
Design
The exterior of the new Wraith combines the elegance of the 1938 Wraith and the elements of convertibles from the 50s and 60s. Designed to compete with the Bentley GT, the car is a fastback, which is an extraordinary format for a Rolls-Royce. It has a huge long hood, a more centered cockpit, a curved roofline that slopes gently towards the rear. The front face features a classic Rolls-Royce grille, a Parthenon grille, a convex hood that converges to the grille, and a figurine of the Spirit of Ecstasy crowning this beauty, which can be extended and retracted inside if necessary.
Interior
The 2016/2017 Rolls-Royce Wraith Coupe has racing seats suitable for four people. Naturally, Rolls-Royce offers numerous options for the most expensive finishes. The car is equipped with many advanced features and options, including: auto-dimming mirrors, tilt and retractable steering wheel, cruise control with the function of detecting the upcoming turn, built-in massage and 8-stage heated front seats (how does it work?!) and hundreds of other options…
Due to the fact that the British company is part of BMW, most of the infotainment and navigation electronics are derived from the iDrive interface. The new Wraith comes standard with a surround camera system, 4-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, 10.3-inch center screen, navigation system, voice control, concierge services and an 18-speaker sound system and CD/DVD player, satellite and HD radio, digital music storage, additional audio jack, USB port. This is not the entire list, but it is way too long for us to name everything.
Engine and transmission
The rear-wheel drive Rolls-Royce Wraith is powered by a 6.6-liter turbocharged V12 engine that produces 624 hp and 800 Nm of torque. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. By using GPS data, the automatic transmission adapts to road conditions and selects the optimal gear. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in 4.7 seconds. For a vehicle weighing almost 2.5 tonnes and being as long as the Ford Expedition, it’s an incredible indicator.
Safety
The new Rolls-Royce Wraith comes with overhead, side and rear-view cameras, traction stability and control system, anti-lock brakes, active front head restraints, knee and side airbags for the front seats and full-size side curtain airbags.
The standard package of driver assistance options includes: lane departure warning system, automatic high beams; head-up display; night vision camera that detects pedestrians and animals and warns the driver with special color coding; adaptive cruise control with the start/stop function.
