Rolls-Royce. Electric Spectre is already undergoing tests
Who said that the electric vehicle boom would not touch Rolls-Royce?! Are the most classic luxury cars in the world immune to global trends? You can continue to think so, while Rolls-Royce is one step closer to its own production electric car. The Rolls-Race Spectre with an electric motor is entering the final stage of development and is already undergoing tests, having driven 2 million kilometers in various extreme conditions. Happy customers will receive the first production Rolls-Royce electric car at the end of 2023. The price of the electric Spectre will start from 275,000 pounds.
The Rolls-Royce Spectre is an electric fastback with a length of 5.5 meters and a wheelbase of over 3 meters. It is based on a Rolls-Royce aluminum chassis adapted to an electric drive system. It will have a special Planar suspension with detachable anti-roll bars that allow you to disconnect one wheel from another without transmitting vibrations along the axle. The electronics that control the suspension receive data from the navigator, and before turning, the “brains” connect the stabilizers. All-wheel drive is obtained through the use of four electric motors, together producing 585 hp and 900 Nm. A battery with a capacity of 120 kWh will provide a driving range of more than 500 km.
The company continues to work on the creation of the ultra-luxurious Rolls-Royce Spectre. At the moment, test drivers, together with the company’s engineers, are examining every aspect of the model’s drive system. Prototypes of the production car have driven more than 2 million kilometers in northern Sweden, where the temperature dropped below 40 degrees, as well as in South Africa in extreme 50-degree heat. Engineers calibrate the software to end up with the smooth, quiet ride and 100% reliability that Rolls-Royce is known for. At least 1,500 hours have already been spent on adjusting the regenerative braking system alone. And there are still half a million kilometers of tests ahead.
Noise isolation is a separate issue: Rolls-Royce cars are known for extremely quiet driving and very thorough sound insulation, but the electric Spectre offers such a low noise level that the driver is practically disconnected from the environment. And this is somewhat dangerous, because, albeit quiet, but still present noise from tires, wind and engine make the driver feel the road better. Therefore, the engineers thought about how to remove some insulation and add artificial sound through the sound system to make it possible to feel the acceleration of an electric car.
The name of the Rolls-Royce Wraith comes from an old Scottish word meaning "ghost" or "spirit" ". The name of the luxury executive sedan, the Rolls-Royce Ghost speaks for itself. The exceptional and exclusive Rolls-Royce Phantom is also essentially a "Ghost".
