Suzuki Swift. Modern urban solution
Suzuki Swift is a subcompact FWD B-class hatchback of the Japanese Suzuki company, produced since 1983. There are five generations of Suzuki Swift. The latest has been available in the market of Israel since 2016. In different times since its production, Suzuki Swift has been sedan, convertible, and 3-door hatchback. Today, it’s produced as a 5-door hatchback.
First generation
The frst-generationSuzuki Swift, produced between 1983 and 1989, has first been offered in the Japanese market only as Suzuki Cultus. Several years later, it started to be supplied to Europe as Suzuki Swift. General Motors, in cooperation with Suzuki, was offering Swift as Chevrolet Sprint in USA, as Pontiac Firefly and Suzuki Forsa - in Canada, as Holden Barina - in Australia. The first Swift was a 3-door car and was equipped with a 3-cylinder 1-L engine of 60 hp. In 1986, as a result of modernization, the first-generation Swift received an independent rear suspension.
Second generation
The second-generation Suzuki Swift was produced from 1989 to 2004 and restyled in 2000. Besides 3- and 5-door hatchback bodies, is was also sedan and convertible. And there was also a version of the Swift with 4WD. The second Swift was assembled everywhere: in Canada and Hungary, in India, Colombia, and Pakistan. In the USA, Suzuki Swift of the 2nd generation was sold as sedan and 3-door hatchback and was much larger than its European ‘twin’. And yes! Pontiac Firefly, Geo Metro, and Chevrolet Metro are also Suzuki Swift.
Third generation
The third generation of Suzuki Swift, produced between 2004 and 2010, was restyled in 2008. It was made on another platform, yet it took after the Suzuki Concept-S in all the best things. This car was unveiled at the Paris Auto Show. The third Swift had the biggest wheelbase, width, and track in its class. Uncommon for such cars 15-inch wheel disks were already present in basic version of the third generation of Swift. And as an alternative to a manual transmission, one could choose automatic or variator transmission. There was also a version of the third Swift with 4WD.
Suzuki Swift 2019/2020 is one of the most attractive and affordable hatchbacks in the automotive market.
Fourth generation
The fourth-generation Suzuki Swift was produced from 2010 to 2016 and restyled in 2013. During the restyling, it received an increased wheelbase, while the length of the fourth-gen Swift increased by 90 mm. On the basis of the fourth-gen Swift in 2012 was a special modification of Suzuki Swift 4×4 Outdoor with 4WD, increased road clearance and plastic body decoration elements. The cars for the European market were assembled in Hungary.
Fifth generation
The fifth-generation Suzuki Swift has been produced from 2016 until now. The new Swift has retained the dimensional characteristics of its predecessor. At the same time, the novelty is adapted to the design features of a more advanced platform, allowing the successful implementation of a number of non-standard features. 5-door urban hatchback Suzuki Swift 2016-2019 is designed with a modern look and with a moderate amount of body decoration.
The design of the latest Swift generation is based on sports style: spoiler, massive trunk door, compact taillights, short overhang and metal parts of the body kit with exhaust tubes in line with the bottom level. As a result, Suzuki Swift 2019/2020 is one of the most attractive and affordable hatchbacks in the automotive market.
