Ford Explorer – overview
The Ford Explorer is a mid-size five- or seven-seater crossover (in 1-4th generation) or SUV (in 5-6th), produced since 1990. First introduced in March 1990, the body-on-frame SUV immediately became a best-seller in the US market, earning the "Best 4WD Vehicle of the Year" award twice. The sixth generation Explorer has become a frameless SUV with a longitudinal engine and rear-wheel drive (if the version is not all-wheel drive).
