Volkswagen Touareg – overview

The Volkswagen Touareg is a mid-size SUV that has been produced since 2002. The word "Touareg" originates from the Middle Ages, when it stood for "the knights of the desert", nomads living in the Sahara. Volkswagen's first luxury SUV combines the qualities of an excellent SUV with the comfort of a sedan and the dynamics of a sports car. The Touareg resembles a heavyweight boxer at the peak of his form, formidable, but not aggressive. The ground clearance depends both on the size of the wheels (from 18 to 22 inches) and on the suspension settings. It varies within 185-270 mm: 85 mm of free play. The vehicle is able to overcome fords up to 570 mm deep, increase the angles of climbing and departure up to 31 degrees and at the same time present better dynamics on the track or more convenient loading. The rear axle steering system provides almost passenger car handling to the SUV. At high speeds, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels for better corner entry, and in the opposite direction when parking.
