Morris Minor – overview

Morris Minor is a compact 2-door passenger car in saloon and convertible bodies, which was produced from 1948 to 1971. Later, 4-door versions, a Traveller version and even a van appeared. The second generation was produced from 1952 to 1956, in 1956 a new model Morris Minor 1000 was released, equipped with advanced technologies for its time. The Morris Minor was first presented to the public on October 27, 1948 at the Earls Court Motor Show. The development was carried out by the famous automobile designer Alex Issigonis, who later became the designer of the Mini. He faced a difficult task - to squeeze as much useful space for passengers into a small body, which he did with great success. The serial car turned out to be so successful that it gained enormous popularity. The very first Morris Minor was equipped with a 918 cc engine with a power output of only 27 hp, with which the car developed a maximum speed of 103 km/h. However, its undeniable advantage was its economical fuel consumption: it spent only 4.5 liters per 64 km (it traveled 40 miles per gallon). Such strict economy was appreciated by buyers in the difficult post-war years. Such strict savings in the difficult post-war years were appreciated by buyers. It is therefore not surprising that the Morris Minor became the first British car to exceed the one million mark in sales in 1961. By 1970, more than 1.3 million had been produced. Moreover, it is still surprisingly popular: today, there are about 15,000 examples still on the road in the UK, although these rarities are now worth considerably more than they once were.
