Ford Anglia - catalog and technical specifications
Ford Anglia is a compact 2-door sedan or van with a front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout, developed by the British division of the American company Ford. Produced in four generations from 1939 to 1967, it was originally a slightly redesigned Ford 7Y from the pre-war years. The 4-door version with improved finishing and a more powerful engine received its own name Ford Prefect. The budget family model was distinguished by its simplicity of design, modest finishing and weak dynamics, since the post-war economy did not attract luxury class excesses. The only significant improvement was the stronger brakes. Two trim levels were offered - Standard and Deluxe with an expanded list of equipment and running boards. Until 1947, a 23-horsepower 993 cc engine was installed under the hood. cm, which accelerated the car to a maximum of 92 km/h. At the time it was the cheapest car on the market, costing just 309 British pounds including taxes. In 1953, after the release of the new generation, Anglia received a monocoque body instead of a frame chassis and other progressive design elements, a modern design, a 36-horsepower engine with a volume of 1172 cm³, which could accelerate the car to 113 km/h, as well as 12-volt electrics, rare for those years. Nowadays, the Ford Anglia is a cult car, a true classic, almost a style icon, especially valued by collectors and antique lovers. Anglia gained worldwide fame after the release of the film “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”, where the car, thanks to the witchcraft of Arthur Weasley, learned to fly and acquired a slightly absurd character.
